It appears that Nashville general manager Barry Trotz is exploring his trade options as he has signed starting goaltender Jusse Saros to a eight-year contract extension that is worth $61.9 million. Adding Scott Wedgewood into the mix, it's clear they are in a win now mode and that he has the option to trade Askarov who was expected to be a starting goaltender and future star of the Predators.
Putting Askarov on the trade block will bring tons of attention to many teams who are looking for goaltending. Goaltending has become a position of contention as many teams do not have great starting goaltenders.
Askarov was selected by Nashville in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, first round 11th overall. The 22-year-old who stands at six foot four and 179 lbs play two games with the predators last year with a 1.47 goal against and a .943 save percentage. The remainder of his season was with the Milwaukee Admirals of the AHL where he had a record of 30-13-1.
It remains to be seen on how this will play out but it's certain that Trotz will get a great return if he decides to move him.
