New Utah owner Ryan Smith has told the league and the fan base that he will not choose a new name or logo for this upcoming season as he hopes the fan base will choose their name in an upcoming naming bracket similar to the NCAA.
This method is the same that the PWHL has gone for their teams as it's likely they will choose their names and logos starting next year.
Smith also stated that the name Utah will be used in the new name rather than Salt Lake City as he is the owner of the NBA franchise the Utah Jazz. Smith also wants synergy between both clubs as the colour scheme will likely be purple and white or purple in blue depending on what's chosen And he would also like both teams to be on each other's jerseys though it's unlikely the NHL in the NBA will allow it to happen.
It's been a few months since the news broke that the now defunct Arizona Coyotes were moved to Salt Lake City in a unique exchange between Gary Bettman, Ryan Smith and Alex Meruelo. With the Arizona operations now in Utah, Morello has a five-year window to build a new arena in Arizona and will hold the rights to a new expansion team.
Now the waiting game begins as Smith will announce the winner of the new name and logo which will be established in the 2025 season.
