Oilers insider Bob Stauffer has revealed a couple of key reasons two why there's a rift between JT Miller and Elias Pettersson of the Vancouver Canucks.
During an exchange with Daily Faceoff Insider Frank Seravalli that people from the Vancouver organization have explained the JT Miller isn't happy that Pettersson received $3.6 million more in his contract.
He also stated that there's a possible issue with who gets to play with
Quinn Hughes which has added fuel to the fire in this rift.
Seravalli felt that this was not the truth to which Stauffer quipped that's Seravalli's view.
The Rift Story That Doesn't Go Away
This rift between the two elite players has been ongoing for several weeks in the NHL news cycle an many takes have been given from fans, pundits in the league and even former coaches who coached the Canucks.
Both players have denied that this rift is even real but as many say, if there's smoke there's fire and this story does not seem to be losing any strength going forward.
Over the last 10 games the Canucks have not performed well as their current record IS3-4-3 and currently sit below the Edmonton Oilers in fourth place with 44 points.
While the team has had a successful road record, their home record is not to be desired and many times the Canucks fans have not been happy with their team.
Teams like the Oilers can just sit back and watch to see if the Canucks will implode due to this story along with injuries to Quinn Hughes and Pettersson himself.
No matter the case, Oilers fans can enjoy seeing their archrival wither and potentially fall out of the playoffs has the Canucks hold the second wild card spot but with four teams on their heels.
Oilers Looking To Gain Ground In Standings
Meanwhile, the Oilers winners of their last two are looking to put more distance between themselves and the Canucks as they are on the road set to face off against the Seattle Kraken.
This game will be the start of a four-game road trip where the Oilers hope to put some points in the bank and maintain or gain in the standings.
The game will take place on January 4th and game time will be 10:00 PM eastern.
