According to a post on the Edmonton Oilers Reddit Page, the team had actually seen a growth on all social media platforms since hiring Stan Bowman.
There shouldn't be much stock put into tracking the follower count of a major organization like the Oilers, but some fans have been significantly protesting the team for hiring Bowman - including thousands of fans signing a petition to fire Bowman and more cancelling subscriptions. Maybe if anything, the Oilers growth after the Bowman hire proves that any press is good press.
Bowman has rightfully faced plenty of criticism from NHL fans skeptical of the fact that he should be brought right back into the league as a top team's General Manager after proven his incompetence to the highest degree handling the Kyle Beach incident in Chicago. The Oilers and President Jeff Jackson have stuck by the hire, and no matter what the fans think of him, will not change course at this point in time.
It's extremely unfortunate that Bowman is a distraction for the Oilers, coming off a Stanley Cup Final run and incredible offseason additions from Jeff Jackson in free agency and trade. Regardless, Bowman is now our General Manager, and he'll have to earn fans trust back by running a progressive and through front office as well as building a winning team.
