Old video shows Rutger McGroarty lying to Winnipeg Jets fans

It's been a tough week for Winnipeg Jets fans as Rutger McGroarty was traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins yesterday when old videos resurfaced showing him lying about his love for the Jets.

The video shows McGroarty telling the camera that he grew up as a Winnipeg Jets fan and absolutely loves the organization. Clearly that's not the case as he refused to give a true reason why he wanted to leave the team had not signed a contract.

General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff had spoken to his agent along with McGroarty and it was clear that he could not change their minds.

Another tweet revealed that he is a true Maple Leaf fan when he was at the 2022 NHL Combine. A reporter had asked him what he thought of playing with Auston Matthews and he stated that anyone who'd played with him would be amped.

It's certainly aggravating and disappointing to lose a first round pick you drafted and it seems there is a growing trend of certain players telling teams but they have no desire to sign long term.

In the end, the Jets ended up getting a great player in return with Brayden Yager who will be a fixture on the team and the organization can move on and turn the page on this draft chapter.
