Sportsnet cuts ties with top analyst for incident at NHL Draft
According to YYZSportsMedia, Sportsnet has cut ties with top analyst Jeff Marek for unconfirmed draft reasons'.
Details are scarce but multiple sources tell me that for unconfirmed draft reasons, Jeff Marek will likely be no longer performing duties at Sportnet hockey. Details to follow. This would appear to include his podcast duties too.
This is an incredibly vague reasoning for firing one of the network's most important analysts, but hopefully more details become available. Plenty of fans had noticed that Marek had not made any public statements since the draft and had stopped the 32 Thoughts Podcast with Elliotte Friedman. At this point, it doesn't sound like he will be returning in any capacity to Sportsnet.
Whatever the reason is that Marek was let go for, this is still a massive loss for Sportsnet. Marek was one of the channel's top figures, appearing on their radio daily, the best podcast in hockey, and on game broadcasts regularly. Many fans are extremely disappointed with his departure, and are hoping the best for him in this time.
Jeff Marek has always seemed like one of the more down to earth people in hockey media, so hopefully there isn't any personal problems affecting him. More details should surface in the coming days as to the reasoning for his departure, and we'll keep you updated here.
