Tyson Barrie came to Calgary Flames training camp uncertain that his career would be continuing, but he could still have fun just playing hockey.

Barrie has now officially signed a one year deal to play with the Flames this season, but he'll have to continue proving himself to stay in the lineup. In a recent interview, Barrie candidly admitted that he was nervous his career would be over, and that he'll be battling as hard as possible to keep it alive.

REPORTER: Did you have a moment in the summer where it was like, jeez, I'm not going to

BARRIE: Oh yeah. July 1, when my phone was silent. I was trying to get reception, looking around. Yeah, there was definitely some moments where I thought, even going back to last year, there's moments where you think, do you still want to keep going'. I've been fortunate to play a long time and have some good contracts. I definitely had to make a conscious decision, put the work in, and continue the journey. I'm really glad I did.

Barrie always was a personable guy with a light attitude, and it's good to see he's kept that up while battling to continue his career. He candidly admitted the panic and uncertainty of going without a contract this summer, and also showed full commitment to improving his game this year.

After being traded off the Edmonton Oilers in 2023, Barrie's career took a turn for the worse. Barrie was only dressed in 41 games, and scratched for every playoff game except for one. Barrie scored over 40 points in three season with the Oilers, but only scored 27 points in two seasons with the Predators. His offensive output dried up with less opportunity, and Oilers fans know Barrie isn't the best in his own zone.

Now 33 years old, Barrie will have a great opportunity to build back up with the Calgary Flames this year. He should get plenty of opportunities and power play time on a rebuilding team, and if he can succeed in his minutes, the Calgary Flames can likely trade him to a contender and get assets back. When the Battle of Alberta isn't on, Barrie will still have plenty of supporters cheering for him in Edmonton.
