Arthur Staple of the Athletic has reported that stop the New York Rangers have contacted the Vancouver Canucks on a potential trade for former Rangers star JT Miller.

Miller as been absent from the Vancouver Canucks since he took a personal leave of absence which began on November 19th. The Canucks do not know when Miller will return to their lineup, and it has left a glaring hole in their offence as one of their best players is now absent.

«A league source said the Rangers recently inquired with the Canucks about J.T. Miller, who is currently on an indefinite leave of absence. Miller was a 2011 first-round pick by the Rangers and has been coveted by Drury before - the Rangers were after Miller before the 2021-22 trade deadline, but wouldn't include Braden Schneider in a deal. Miller then signed a seven-year extension worth $8-million a year, pulling him off the market.»

The Rangers have a major appetite for changing their roster as general manager Chris Drury is not satisfied on how his team has played and are now losers of five in a row as they have lost to the Philadelphia Flyers earlier today 3-1.

A major shake up is looming for the Rangers and with the Canucks lacking a star, this could be a trade that both teams are looking for. Miller began his career when he was drafted by the Rangers in 2011, first round 15th overall.

He spent his first six years in the NHL with the Rangers which began on 2012 and ended in 2018 when he went to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Prior to his departure this season with the Canucks, he had scored six goals and 10 assists for 16 points through 17 games and was a + 1.

With Rangers players like Jacob Trouba, K'Andre Miller, Kappo Kakko and Chris Krieder all names on the Rangers trade list, a possible deal may be imminent.
