It was a massive goal to be overturned, and it was truly an inch or less from being on-side. Truthfully, it looked from every angle that there was no definitive proof of onside or offside. Panthers coach Paul Maurice was livid shouting obscenities at the referees, and General Manager Bill Zito gave a stare that was clearly seething with anger.
Even considering the overturned goal, the Edmonton Oilers are the more deserving team to win this game so far in the first half. Through the first thirty minutes of the game, no Panthers forward recorded a shot on goal - their shots totalling less than ten all came from their defencemen.
With the Oilers extremely passionate fanbase behind the team making Rogers Place a terrifying place to play, the Panthers were always going to have difficulty winning the Cup in Edmonton. Tonight's game isn't over by a long shot, but it's looking like the Oilers will come back all the way from a 0-3 deficit to force a Game 7 in heroic fashion. A reverse sweep hasn't happened in the Stanley Cup Final since the 1940s, and the Oilers are now close to finishing the job and making history.
