Through the beginning of the Star Spangled Banner, Oilers fans were jeering Sergei Bobrovsky by chanting his name.
Plenty of hockey fans, probably from the United States, went online to say that Oilers fans jeering through the National Anthem was entirely disrespectful. There's often a reverence extended to the national anthem, but Oilers fans chanted through it anyway.
It may have proved a little bit effective as well, as the Oilers were able to get one early goal past Bobrovsky off a beautiful pass from Leon Draisaitl. The Oilers are overwhelming the Panthers with their offence in the first so far, and could run away with this game if they can bury a few more goals on Bobrovsky.
It's a do-or-die game tonight, and if the Oilers don't want to watch Tkachuk and the Panthers lift the Cup in Edmonton, they'll have to keep up this effort to force a Game 7 and take their comeback effort back to Florida. It feels like the Oilers are right on track to complete the legendary comeback, and if they can finish off the win tonight, all pressure will shift to the Panthers.
