It appears the Edmonton Oilers are heavily scouting the Montreal Canadiens and Columbus Blue Jackets.

During tonight's game between the Blue Jackets and Canadiens, Oilers scouts will undoubtedly be watching the talent on display.

Might they be interested in both Elvis Merzlikins and Sam Montembeault? Both goalies will start tonight for their respective clubs.

It had been reported that the Oilers were interested in goalie Jake Allen, but no moves have been made.

Montembault and Merzlikins are the starting goalies tonight. Oilers had scouts at the last Blue Jackets game as well. Interesting to note: Merzlikins' contract carries an AAV of $5.4m. Not too far off Jack Campbell's $5m

With all the talent on the Habs roster, is this another example of the team doing their due diligence? Maybe they are considering Elvis as another option to add depth to the goaltending department?

With a 3.11 GAA and .907 save percentage, Merzlikins is not too far behind Jack Campbell's AAV of $5.4 Million.

The .910 save percentage and 2.73 GAA of Sam Montembeault this year have really shown his potential.

With a lighter cap hit and $1 million AAV, Montembeault is clearly the better option, but would Kent Hughes be willing to trade a good, cost-controlled goalie?
