Head coach suspended for discriminatory comments
Moments ago, NHL insider Chris Johnston broke the news that the head coach of the Chicago Wolves, Bob Nardella, is being suspended 10 games for using homophobic comments towards the officials.
There's certainly no place in hockey for this type of discriminatory language, especially directed towards the officials. Across the game of hockey, coaches need to treat officials better, and perhaps the quality of calls will improve.
Nardella only being suspended 10 games is quite surprising, because this egregious of an offence could very well have earned him a lifelong ban from the AHL.
The Wolves lost the game in question by a score of 8-5 to the Texas Stars, dropping their record on the season to 5-13-2. Currently, the Chicago Wolves are the only independent team in the AHL, meaning they have no official NHL affiliate team.
