OHL player left laying motionless after dangerous hit
In an OHL game on Wednesday night between the Saginaw Spirit and Windsor Spitfires, a scary scene unfolded when a Spirit player took a dangerous hit and was laying motionless on the ice.
While going into the corner, Vegas' second round draft pick Maytas Sapovaliv took a push from a Spitfires player in a dangerous area, sending him slamming into the boards with force. For the moments after, Sapovaliv didn't move even as the referees attended to him.
The Spirit's defender made contact in an especially dangerous area of the ice, above the red line, which sent him falling awkwardly and with speed into the boards. That type of contact in that specific part of the ice is known throughout hockey to be a terrible hit.
After the game, Sapovaliv thankfully avoided serious injury, as he was evaluated by the medical team and cleared to travel with them back to Saginaw.
