Moments ago, the Chicago Blackhawks revealed the results of their medical evaluation of Connor Bedard after taking a big hit from Devils' defenceman Brendan Smith last night. Right now, it seems the news definitely isn't great.
According to Scott Powers of the Athletic, Connor Bedard has a fractured both his jaw and a left finger. With at least the finger break, Bedard will be out for at least six weeks, if not more.
It's a tough update for the young Hawks' superstar, as he was having an unbelievable start to his career. In 39 games this season, Bedard has scored 15 goals and 33 points, and was the clear favourite for the Calder trophy.
Here's the hit that caused the injury:
In the fight defending Bedard as well, Hawks' veteran Nick Foligno fractured a finger too. Moments ago, the Blackhawks released a statement placing both of them on the injured reserve. To an already depleted and rebuilding Blackhawks team, losing these two players will be a gut-punch for the rest of the season.
