With the Oilers putting the Stars against the ropes for game 6, the Stars are willing to try anything they can to stay in the series against the Oilers. The Stars are built around depth, but aren't getting nearly enough production from multiple members of the team. They're willing to try anything they can at this point, including calling up yet another young guy from the AHL to stay alive in the series.
The Stars have called up Mavrik Bourque, who lead the entire AHL in scoring with 77 points in 71 games. He has been phenomenal with the Texas Stars this season and is now looking to take the jump into the NHL.
It is playoff time however, and it's very rare that a 22 year old with only one game of NHL experience can come in and make a difference right away. He replaced Ty Dellandrea in the lineup, who has been struggling to produce this postseason. He has only one point in 6 games and head coach Peter DeBoer is hoping that moving pieces around could help fix some offensive problems in the lineup. The Stars were praised for their offensive depth heading into the playoffs, but people have noticed that it hasn't been available in round 3.
Pavelski and Duchene have been held pointless in their last 5 games, while Marchment has been held to only 1. The Oilers offensive depth has been fantastic at shutting down the Stars' depth offense, while the Oilers' offensive stars have completely outmatched Dallas'. If the Oilers can keep doing what they're doing and holding the Stars players off the board, they'll look amazing when they head to the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
