Alex Ovechkin's Stick Collection: Stories Behind the Hockey Sticks
Alex Ovechkin, known for scoring lots of goals in the NHL, also likes collecting hockey stuff. He keeps gear from every goal he scores and has a bunch of sticks used by other famous players.
Getting the Toughest Stick: Connor McDavid
Ovechkin has sticks from big names like Lemieux, Crosby, Matthews, Kariya, and Gretzky. But the hardest one to get was from Connor McDavid, a player for the Oilers.
Ovechkin told the story in an interview with his wife Nastya. They showed where Ovechkin keeps his sticks at home. In the interview, Nastya asked him about the hardest stick to get.
«You tried very hard,» Nastya replied.
«Yeah, and they agreed,» Ovechkin said. «So now I'm the first to have McDavid's stick.»
Ovechkin also got a stick from McDavid at the 2022 NHL All-Star Game. McDavid signed one for Ovechkin's kid.
As Ovechkin tries to beat Wayne Gretzky's NHL goals record, he also keeps looking for more sticks. One interesting time for this could be on December 10 when the Capitals play against the Blackhawks. Connor Bedard is a new player for the Blackhawks and might have a stick that Ovechkin wants.
