To most Oilers fans and analysts, it's clear that the team is in desperate need of a reliable starting goalie to pair with Stuart Skinner. At this point in the season it seems that the trade market for goaltenders has been fairly stiff, and now, the Oilers are reportedly shifting their focus to make an addition at forward.

According to a recent report from Chris Johnston, Penguins forward Jake Guentzel could be an option for the Edmonton Oilers near the trade deadline.

No buyer makes more sense than Edmonton. This would be an elite-level upgrade to a team already spilling over with elite forwards, and it would give the Oilers a natural shoot-first winger who could play alongside Leon Draisaitl.

If Pittsburgh continues to fall in the standings, Guentzel is a highly talented player they could move to begin their rebuild. On the Oilers side, it would add to an already absurdly strong Edmonton offence, and could give Leon Draisaitl a quality offensive pairing on the second line.

It may be flawed in logic to steer away from focusing trade efforts on a starting goalie, but if the Oilers find it impossible to acquire one in a trade, it makes sense to add to their strengths and try to keep out-scoring their problems. After the winning streaks that have taken the Oilers back into a playoff spot despite their terrible start to the season, they deserve a quality addition to the team to help them down the stretch.
