Jeff Jackson and the Edmonton Oilers fired Jay Woodcroft abruptly at the beginning of the season.

When it came down to it, Woodcroft wasn't looking like a contender, more like a pretender. Three-nine-one was an unexpected rough patch for a successful coach on a badly built, bargain-bin team.

Ken Holland went dumpster diving at Harbor Freight Tools instead of shopping at Home Depot.

This past off-season, Holland's lack of imagination forced Woodcroft to bite the bullet.

It has been reported that Woodcroft will not be out of a job for long, as there is speculation that he will return with a contending team soon.

Coach Jay Woodcroft who was fired for #Oilers bad start could land a new job before the trade deadline on a team fighting for a playoff spot this year. Several GM's eyes lit up when he was let go. Also Gallant sitting in wings for a coaching position soon as one opens.

In what timeframe? As soon as the trade deadline comes around, according to an NHL Insider.

It's only a matter of time before we see Woody back behind a bench again.
