The Edmonton Oilers' firing of Jay Woodcroft so soon after he was promoted from the AHL was clearly short-sighted.

Woodcroft started the season with a 3-9-1 record, showing obvious structural issues throughout.

Consequently, Woodcroft is unemployed after leading the team to a 50-23-9 record for 109 points in the NHL a year earlier.

After taking over from Davie Tippett, Woodcroft led the Oilers to a 79-41-13 record, 5th best in the NHL at the time.

There is a belief that Woodcroft is headed to another Canadian team, and with D.J. Smith now on the hot seat after owner Michael Andlauer removed his protector Pierre Dorion, it would make sense that he would consider Woodcroft.

If Jay Woodcroft is fired by the Oilers, how long will it take for the Senators to hire him?

You'd think someone like Woodcroft would be on the Senators' radar, given they're nearing the end of their rebuild.

I believe Jay Woodcroft will eventually land in Ottawa and replace DJ Smith. #GoSensGo #HeavyHockey

Do you think Woodcroft will quickly sign in Ottawa, considering he's a hometown Ontario boy and he could foster his revenge campaign with the Senators against the Oilers?

It's something to consider, but for now it seems to be speculation.
