As the Oilers returned home after being on the road for several weeks along with the break for Christmas, it seemed fitting that McDavid would delight the fans with passing his 900th point in just over 600 games.
The season started off slow for McDavid as the fans and the pundits expected him to have a lightning start like he's done in previous years.
With the team mired in issues from goaltending through poor defense and then a coaching change it's clear that the team has changed for the better and McDavid has been on a tear ever since.
Since Coach Knoblauch and Coffey have taken over the team there's been only one game where he hasn't factored in scoring or any points. 32 games prior to tonight, he has scored thirteen goals, with this for 48 points and as a +6. This puts him in 5th overall in points in the league.
After he crossed the milestone, Frank Seravalli of the dailyfaceoff.com tweeted out a stat that McDavid is the fifth fastest player in the NHL history to reach 900 points.
As McDavid continues to cement himself around the legends of the game in terms of stats and accolades, the next question will be how many games it will take before he reaches 1000 points.
If I were to guess it would be under 800 games.
