It wasn't long before Jay Woodcroft and Dave Manson were fired by the Edmonton Oilers.

Kris Knoblauch was hired in his place by Jeff Jackson and Ken Holland, with Paul Coffey serving as an assistant coach.

In the AHL, Knoblauch most recently served as head coach of the Hartford Wolfpack, the team affiliated with the New York Rangers.

Knoblauch was naturally overwhelmed at the press conference since he had been handed the key to one of hockey's most storied franchises.

Asked to name players, coaches, and general managers who helped him get into the NHL, he could only name one person who mattered most to him: his wife.

A hiring like Knoblauch can be ominous since Connor McDavid played for Knoblauch's Eerie Otters in the OHL. It seems that a reunion is in order.

Prior to arriving in Edmonton, Knoblauch had 12 years of coaching experience, winning championships in the WHL and OHL.

Knoblauch coached the Hartford Wolfpack last season and lost in the second round of the Calder Cup playoffs with a record of 35-26-11.

It will be his turn to right the ship and we hope he can convert this passion into fuel for a winning franchise.
