The third go around for Oilers fan favorite Sam Gagner has been rather special. The 34 year old forward received word last year that he had to undergo double hip surgery while playing for the Winnipeg Jets.

After a grueling summer of rehab, he was invited on a PTO by the Oilers which led to an AHL contract with the Bakersfield Condors.

This paved the way for his return to Edmonton and was signed to a one year deal and he has made a statement with his play. Unfortunately, Gagner sustained a high stick last week during the game with the Devils and remains on the shelf.

His return to the Oilers has been rather a productive one considering the limited ice time he has been given. Over the past 18 games, he has scored four goals, with five assists for nine points and is a + 3.

He has the love of many fans, and he holds a cap hit of $775,000 and has strong experience with helping a playoff push. That is certainly a bargain any GM would love to have.
