McDavid is currently sitting at 995 career points, just 5 away from the incredible career mark of 1000. Most players nowadays reach that mark well into their thirties, but McDavid will be the fourth fastest player in NHL history to do it - only behind Gretzky, Lemieux, and Bossy.
Coach Knoblauch spoke glowingly about McDavid's career after practice today, and chuckled at the fact that McDavid wouldn't comment on it. Although McDavid himself won't say it, Knoblauch said that the Oilers superstar is taking pride in his accomplishments.
Only five points away from history, Oilers fans know that Connor McDavid could get it over with next game. He'll have the next two games to get 5 points in front of the home crowd, or else he could get his 1000th point in his hometown of Toronto next Saturday.
McDavid was asked about the career milestone after the last game against the Canucks, and he downplayed the importance of the event to himself, saying he's only focused on winning games.
It would be great for Oilers fans to be able to witness that history on home ice, and also to take that moment away from happening in Toronto. It will be an emotional moment for Oilers fans who have watched this player grow from an immensely talented kid to maybe the best hockey player of all time.
