The Edmonton Oilers are dealing with a disaster level situation with an injury to Connor McDavid, but the superstar is doing everything he can to get back on the ice.

McDavid has officially been ruled out for the next two games while he leaves the team's road trip to return back to Edmonton for medical testing. More information is expected to become available in the next 24 hours. According to the 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast however, McDavid has already called in his own personal trainers for help.

The 2 Mutts Hockey Podcast elaborated that this isn't actually new, McDavid has had this group of trainers working in unison with the Oilers staff for quite a while. After he missed significant time in his first season with his shoulder injury, it could just be an extra step from a great player to make sure he's able to play at 100% health all of the time.

Judging by reports from NHL insiders and a prominent online sports doctor, Connor McDavid likely suffered a high ankle sprain during the play against Columbus. Depending on the grade of the sprain, if that is the case, McDavid could miss anywhere from one week to several months. Given the fact that he was able to get to the bench on his own alleviates concerns of structural damage, but the Oilers won't know for sure until tomorrow. For now, the team has called up Noah Philp and Drake Caggiula for forward depth.

Regardless, for any amount of time the Oilers are without Connor McDavid, their team is going to be significantly worse off. They already had a slow start, and now they may be relying on Leon Draisaitl and their supporting cast to keep them in the playoff picture.
