After the Vegas Golden Knights scored to seal the win, Connor McDavid was visibly extremely frustrated on the bench. The Oilers Captain was snapping around and trying to refrain from throwing the water bottle.

Last night, the Edmonton Oilers had a chance to make history and tie the all time win streak record against the Vegas Golden Knights, but just lost out by a close score of 3-1. It was an incredibly tight-checking game and the Oilers pushed hard at the end with the net empty, and still came up just short.

Whether it was because of the missed opportunity to make history or simply because the team hadn't lost in so long, some Oilers players like McDavid obviously had a visceral reaction to the loss on the ice. When the got to the dressing room for post-game interview however, the mood was much more calm and reflective of the streak as a whole. When asked about if bounces affected this game and the streak as a whole, McDavid had a mature and professional answer.

»Yeah, we had a lot of things go right, obviously. You know, winning 16 straight you gotta have a lot of things go well, and you gotta get some bounces, and we got some bounces. But for the most part I thought we went out and earned our bounces, and earned our luck. Like I said, tonight we didn't go out and get it, credit to them, they make a shot and are able to clog it up just enough to get it done.»

Now looking back on the Oilers incredible run of success as a whole and looking forward to the games ahead, McDavid's answer is the exact mentality they need to have. They got some luck, the team has some generational talents, but if they got out and earn their bounces - this is potentially the best team in the league. Tonight against the Ducks, the Oilers will have an opportunity to get right back in the win column after the all star break.
