Chicago Blackhawks veteran Jonathan Toews could be attempting an NHL comeback after missing the last two seasons, and the Edmonton Oilers could be a landing spot for him.

Jonathan Toews recently revealed in a new interview that he's feeling optimistic about continuing his career after missing so much time.

Likely looking to make a comeback as a depth player on a cup contending team, the Edmonton Oilers would surely be a team Toews would be interested in joining. Not only that, but the Oilers are now headed by Stan Bowman, Toews' former General Manager.

OilersNation Analysts Tyler Yaremchuk and Liam Horrobin agreed with certainty that Stan Bowman would extend an invitation to his former Blackhawks captain.

Toews was never really a superstar scoring player, but in his prime could produce reliably and play incredibly efficient two way hockey next to their superstars.

In 53 games of his last season in 2022-23, Toews scored a decent 15 goals and 31 points. Since then, he's been sidelined with Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome.

Could the Edmonton Oilers sign Jonathan Toews to a PTO Next Summer?

The Oilers bottom six is currently crowded with veteran players that would make it impossible for Toews to return now, but next year, there could be an opening for him.

The only current Oilers bottom six forwards under contract for next season are Adam Henrique and Mattias Janmark. If Connor Brown leaves, Corey Perry retires, or Noah Philp doesn't pan out, there could be a spot for Toews.

For the Oilers, Toews could be a bottom six defensive player with the ability to chip in offence. Most importantly though he brings the experience of 1067 career games, 137 playoff games, and three Stanley Cups.

Stan Bowman signed Jonathan Toews to his 8 year contract that made him a career Blackhawk to this point, and surely the two would have enough of a connection to regroup in Edmonton.

It would be an intriguing fit between Toews and the Edmonton Oilers. Only time will tell if Toews can heal up, get back to game shape, and successfully make a comeback to pro hockey.
