The Oilers signed Tracey to the tryout contract last week, and he only played 4 games with the Condors tryout, not recording a single point. Tracey received third line minutes with alongside James Stefan and Carl Berglund - two decent prospects - but Tracey was just unable to create anything.
It's been a quick fall out of professional hockey for Brayden Tracey, who was drafted in the first round by the Anaheim Ducks in 2019. Tracey actually impressed in his first AHL season with the Ducks organization to earn a call-up for one NHL game in 2022, but only two years later, it looks like his professional career is over.
After being cut from an AHL tryout on a Condors team that's desperate for forwards in the lineup, it's hard to imagine Tracey finding work elsewhere even in the AHL. The 23 year old may have to bump down to the ECHL to save his career, or continue it at all.
The Condors current desperation for forwards prompted the signing of Tracey, and even though they're releasing him, the Oilers AHL team may still be looking for help up front. The Oilers AHL team currently has a mediocre record of 5-4-1, and are struggling to score goals.
The Edmonton Oilers have often found value signings from closely scouting local talent on the Edmonton Oil Kings, like Noah Philp. We'll have to see in the coming days if another move is coming to help the Condors, but it could be more local talent trying out for the Oilers organization.
