Dreger states over the course of Perry's career he has positioned himself within the blue paint and around the goaltender which has caused numerous goals to be called back, while many who watched the game live and even some pundits felt that this goal should have counted. Dreger spoke to several general managers and the NHL, and all have agreed that this was the right call.
This disallowed goal became so controversial that the NHL released their decision to social media to explain why this happened. They claim that Perry impeded Dan Vladar's ability to move within the crease or defend his net. The video of the top-down view of this infraction will be left to the judgment of all fans to agree or disagree.
This call certainly has reflected on how the Oilers season has begun as it appears nothing is going their way and that the team has opened the season like last year's with a 0-3 start. It seems the team has gone through a complete breakdown whether it's the offence not scoring enough goals, the defence allowing too many goals through and the goaltending that has looked shaky at best.
Oilers management does not appear to be in panic mode as the season is so early to make quick decisions or knee jerk reactions to their roster. The team will need to play through their troubles and figure out a way to get back on the winning track as they close out their homestand on October 15th against the Philadelphia Flyers and then be on the road for two games against the Nashville Predators and the Dallas Stars.
Game time will be at 10:00 PM Eastern.
