The Oilers signed defenseman Evan Bouchard to an incredible contract last summer of 2 years for $7.8 million which is way below what he is worth after the season he has had.
Bouchard's contract will be up at the end of the 2024-25 season which means he will likely be signing a massive extension next season.
Insider Jim Matheson reported that the asking Price will likely be around $10 million per year since defenseman Adam Fox signed for $9.5 million per year in 2022. There is also a high likelihood the cap will be going up to $95 million in 2025 which will give the Oilers more cap room.
If we're wondering what Evan Bouchard will get in new deal after next season, Adam Fox, who is very much same offensive talent, has $9.5m cap hit in New York. But deal kicked in 2022 after he won Norris trophy, and cap is going up. It could be $92m in 2025. So, $10m?
The 24 year-old is having an phenomenal season as he sits 3rd for most points by a defensemen this season with 72 in 70 games, only behind Makar and Josi. While this has been the best year of his career, Bouchard has proven this year in not a fluke as he has put up 40 and 43 points in his last two seasons.
