It's fantastic to see Leon Draisaitl sign off for the offseason with a recognition of the fans, and seeking focused on winning the Stanley Cup next season. As Leon said, the heartbreak of losing in Game 7 and that experience will only make the team better next season - along with their new free agent signings. Every Oiler on the team that's issued a statement so far seems locked in on a Stanley Cup next season.
Draisaitl will be in the news plenty more this offseason, as his expiring contract is the next big bit of Oilers business. While some have stirred up rumours he may be departing the team, all credible reports indicate he wants to re-sign in Edmonton. The salary will likely be near $14M, but there is some questions about the term. According to David Pagnotta yesterday, Draisaitl could be eying a 4 year contract with the Oilers, similar to Auston Matthews with the Leafs.
When Jeff Jackson locks up Leon Draisaitl to his next contract and re-signs Connor McDavid shortly afterward, the Oilers could have an opportunity to contend for multiple Stanley Cups. This year's supporting roster was the best they've had yet - and with Jeff Jackson at the helm, things only look to be getting better.
