It's very interesting to see the Oilers make this emergency roster move with no apparent injuries to their defence. In the week of the trade deadline, a roster move like this can be a precursor to a trade.
Edmonton Oilers announce strange emergency recall of defenceman
Cam Dineen is a 26 year old left shot defenceman who's played 7 full seasons in the AHL. He appeared in 34 games for the Arizona Coyotes in 2021-22, but has not yet played for the Oilers.
Edmonton acquired Dineen before the trade deadline in 2023, as part of the package that brought Nick Bjugstad to the Oilers. In 45 games with the Condors this year, Dineen has an impressive 29 points.

Making an emergency roster move like this would make sense if the Oilers were playing tomorrow and expecting to be down a defenceman - or perhaps if a trade is in the works.
Darnell Nurse missed the last two games for the Oilers, but was back at practice today and is expected to play tomorrow. Brett Kulak is ill, but the Oilers are still carrying 7 defenceman on the roster with Troy Stecher.
Perhaps the Oilers are giving a look to Dineen as an evaluation for their left side depth before the trade deadline. That was identified as an area of need for Stan Bowman in a recent interview. still, the emergency part of the roster move throws that theory into question.
