Evander Kane has always been a bit of a wild card in his NHL career, and now there's reportedly some friction developing between the forward and the Edmonton Oilers.

Earlier this week reports surfaced that Kane was insistent on playing this season to ramp up for playoffs, which is the source of the conflict with the Oilers organization.

According to new reports from Elliotte Friedman on the most recent edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Kane disagrees with the Oilers medical opinion that he can't return to play this season - and intends to get back into the lineup as soon as possible.
With Kane, I think it's important for him to play. I think he wants to come back in the regular season, and he wants to prove that he can be a factor on a good team. I don't know what the medicals say. I know there's a disagreement.

- Elliotte Friedman

Oilers president Jeff Jackson recently stated that front office received credible medical reports that Kane would need to miss the entire season. That would give them his $5.125M to add before the trade deadline, but if Kane returns early, it would throw a wrench into their deadline plans.
The confirmation of a rift between Kane and Oilers management is a troubling development, because now they may not be able to trust him to follow through with their deadline plans. Trading Kane may now become a priority.
Additionally, Friedman revealed Kane has submitted his no-trade list which excludes rebuilding teams. Kane will accept a trade to any playoff contender.
I think basically if you're a contender, Kane will go to you. I heard his list is basically contenders where he can go to. He set it up to be in a place where he can win. That's what I've heard. Again, second hand. But I believe in the information.

- Elliotte Friedman

If the Oilers truly believe that Kane will pop up in the final two weeks and demand to play, while putting the team in a tough spot with their salary cap, then they will be forced to trade him.
Without Kane's salary on LTIR or off the roster entirely, the Oilers will have almost no cap room to make a trade deadline move. Kane's injury is an essential part of their plans, and unfortunately being the wild card that he is, it may force Edmonton's hand.
