have every reason to go all-in at the trade deadline this season, and one perfect trading partner to fulfill multiple positions of need could be the Boston Bruins.

The Oilers have been connected to multiple Bruins in trade, and just like they could with the Chicago Blackhawks, there's a possibility to strike a trade to send two players to Edmonton.

Edmonton Oilers could target Brandon Carlo, Trent Frederic in blockbuster trade

If the Edmonton Oilers wanted to go all-in on playoff tested truculence for their springtime lineup, trading for Trent Frederic and Brandon Carlo from the Bruins would fill their needs.
The Oilers have been connected to Frederic throughout the season. The 27 year old centreman plays a gritty game, has penalty killing experience, and has made appearances in the last 3 playoffs.
Frederic reached offensive career highs last year with 18 goals and 40 points, but this season is having a worse year with only 15 points in 55 games. He's playing less than 15 minutes a night on average, so at $2.3M salary, Frederic is an expensive rental 4th liner.
Brandon Carlo is a player in a similar situation - a gritty physical defenceman having a rough season with the Bruins, and under contract for the next two seasons at $4.1M. The Oilers have also been linked to Carlo.
If the Oilers see a player that can be rehabilitated in Carlo as the salary cap increases, perhaps there's a match to be had. However, after the signing of John Klingberg, another expensive addition to the blue line seems less likely - a depth addition is more realistic.
Frederic and Carlo's combined salary of $6.4M could be absorbed by the Oilers with minimal salary retention, if Evander Kane doesn't return from injury until the playoffs. If Kane comes back early, the Oilers trade deadline plans suddenly become very slim.
Team appear to like a one-stop-shop trade needs they can fulfill multiple needs with one deal. If the Boston Bruins continue to fall out of the playoff picture and appear willing to sell, they'll have plenty of interested buyers - including the Oilers.
