In a new interview on the Bob McCowan Podcast, Jeff Jackson spoke about the process of hiring the next GM, and he noted that the franchise will rely much more on analytics and player development - something Jackson noted that has been underdeveloped under Holland's tenure.
Ken Holland and much of the Oilers front office in the past has ignored analytics, which may have prevented them from a few costly mistakes like the Campbell and Nurse contracts. At the very least, it's encouraging to hear Jackson willing to adopt new information and technology to improve the team.
Jackson also revealed that the Oilers have been interviewing candidates over the past few weeks, and hope to come to a decision on the next GM within the next 10 days. He also laid out what he's looking for in his next GM, and it seems to be a much more progressive approach than Ken Holland.
Between signing Jeff Skinner, Victor Arvidsson, and trading for multiple high end prospects, Jeff Jackson is clearly the right man to steer the direction of the Edmonton Oilers. With the right decisions, this team could be a real dynasty.
