The Canucks Have Reportedly Made Their Decision to Solve Miller and Pettersson Feud
The Vancouver Canucks have been bogged down for weeks by confirmed reports of a feud between Elias Pettersson and JT Miller, and now it sounds the team has decided to solve the issue with a trade.
Former Canuck Brad Richardson confirmed yesterday that the two star players may have an irreparably damaged relationship.
Now, Sportsnet analyst Nick Kypreos is reporting that the Canucks are leaning toward a «major roster change» to solve the issue.
»It's sounding like the Vancouver Canucks are leaning toward a major roster change as it becomes clearer to management that the current roster - specifically feuding starsJ.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson - cannot co-exist. Don't be surprised if we start hearing the Canucks are willing to take calls on Miller.»
- Nick Kypreos Kypreos specified that it could be Miller that the Canucks take trade offers for, which makes sense given that he's the older player.
However, Elliotte Friedman reported that the Canucks are actively listening to offers on both players.
Vancouver Canucks Decide Miller and Pettersson Problem is Untenable, Plan to Move on
When a relationship between two star players has become so publicly poor, a trade is really the only path forward. A competitive team needs to have cohesion and players that are remotely on the same page.
Not only that, but the distraction of these reports have clearly worn on the rest of the team. Friedman also reported that Coach Rick Tocchet and Quinn Hughes are tired of the distraction.
No matter who the Canucks trade, they'll be losing a key piece of their on-ice success that led to an impressive playoff performance last year.
It's incredibly rare to see a dressing room have such a public falling out, especially while the Canucks still tread water in the standings. Perhaps once they actually deal with this locker room rift, their team could get a bump in play.
