The Pittsburgh Penguins have reportedly been in deep talks with Jake Guentzel, where he has been offered six year contracts and have been rejecting them. Well, apparently all that is false, according to David Pagnotta.

There aren't actually any contract talks going. They're at a standstill.

Jake Guentzel was selected in the third round pick in the 2013. Guentzel, 29 years old, has 22 goals and 27 assists, tallying up to 49 points in 46 games this season, along with three goals in the past five games before the All Star break. Jake may be on pace for a career-high year.

However, fans are questioning why Pittsburgh would do this move. He's currently making $6 million and would want more coming out of this year. Also, Pittsburgh should be focusing on rebuilding, not re-signing players going into their 30's. At this point, Pittsburgh's rebuild is going to take years.

They might be better off trading him now when he's at full value, because it doesn't look like the Penguins are going to make the playoffs. The Edmonton Oilers are one of the top suitors for Guentzel, and the other team believed to be interested was Vancouver. Now they've made their big move for Lindholm, the ball's in the Oilers court to make a move for the big impact forward available in Guentzel.
