Earlier this season, Ilya Samsonov was completely in the gutter with his play. His save percentage cratered to well below .900, and the Leafs placed the former first round pick on waivers to be sent to the AHL. Now after a few weeks of mental reset in the minors, it seems like he's back to the elite form he showed last year. In the second period of tonight's game against the Winnipeg Jets, Samsonov made an unbelievable save on a 2-on-0 break that showed he's back.

Samsonov showed incredible poise under the crazy pressure of a 2-on-0 break. The Jets players held onto the puck waiting for the opportunity to pounce, but Samsonov never overcommitted and stuck with the play long enough to prevent a quality chance.

Still through 17 games this season, Samsonov has a brutal 3.69 GAA and .866 save percentage, but in his last two starts since returning from the AHL, he's been looking much better. With this in mind, maybe there's hope yet for Jack Campbell, who's been looking fantastic recently in the AHL.
