Tanev has the reputation for being one of the most physically tough players in the NHL, which is giving DeBoer some optimism that Tanev can push through the injury. However, things aren't looking great for Tanev's condition.
In the second period of game 4, Tanev blocked a shot off his foot which really took a bite out of him. Tanev is a warrior, but immediately he was spotted hobbling down the tunnel. He was unable to return for the rest of the game.
The next morning, Tanev was spotted in the Edmonton airport walking around in a boot, leading to speculation he may have even broken a part of his foot. Whatever the exact nature of the injury is, it's causing significant pain and discomfort for Tanev, and even if he is in the lineup, he won't be near 100% effectiveness.
Dallas' team defence is strong throughout their lineup, but Chris Tanev has become a presence on their back-end, and the Stars need him to be his best in a close series with the Oilers offensive stars.
With the series tied at two and heading back to Dallas, this series is still anyone's to win. If the Stars are missing Tanev tonight and the Oilers elite offence can take advantage of a weakened defence, they may be able to earn an opportunity to punch their ticket to the Stanley Cup Final on home ice.
