BREAKING: Major Fighting Ban Officially Takes Place and Fans are Furious
The Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) has confirmed a fighting ban for the 2023-24 season.
The rule includes an automatic game misconduct for fights, a one-game suspension for instigators, and a two-game suspension for aggressors. The QMJHL has been proactive in addressing fighting, previously adding a 10-minute misconduct penalty.
«Automatic game misconduct for a fight instead of a major penalty and a 10-minute misconduct. Automatic one-game suspension for the instigator.
Two-game suspension for an aggressor.»
The decline of fighting in hockey is evident in both the QMJHL and NHL. Former NHL enforcer and Quebec assembly member Enrico Ciccone supports the ban.
The impact of this ban on QMJHL prospects transitioning to the NHL remains to be seen, as they will enter the big league without significant experience in fighting.
