The NHL has been trying to expand the game all over the world and especially to the US markets as much as possible. This includes the NHL All-Star weekend that's set to take part in Florida, home of the Panthers.

However many hockey fans in Canada have felt shafted, not having the All-Star game in game in Canada since 2012. Well we've got some good news, Canadas game is returning home.

According to a source from Star contributing columnist Nick Kypreos, the Maple Leafs are closing in on hosting the annual event at Scotiabank Arena for the first time since 2000.

When the NHL's premier event landed in Toronto at the Air Canada Centre, Leafs captain Mats Sundin and defenceman Dmitry Yushkevich represented Team World while goalie Curtis Joseph played against them on Team North America.

NHL greats like Martin Brodeur, Ray Bourque, Paul Kariya, Mark Messier, Mike Modano, Joe Sakic, Steve Yzerman, Nicklas Lidstrom, Jaromr Jágr, Pavel Bure and current Leafs president Brendan Shanahan took the ice in Toronto.

Whether or not you agree with how the players are chosen or think the weekend is just a gimmick, most of the players and fans enjoy it, but personally I think the 90's All-Star Games were much more enjoyable.
