Many suggested that they would look at Jacob chicharron from the Arizona Coyotes as a possible upgrade on defence while others felt that the Oilers would circle to the sharks and try to acquire Erik Karlsson.
Both trades didn't happen, however, the Oilers did make a nice move in picking up Mattias Ekholm from the Nashville Predators. The six-foot-four 215-pound defenseman has settled in with the team nicely and has given the Oilers a shot in the arm in their defence corps that they were needing.
After the trade was made, a video was taken of general manager Ken Holland sharing a moment with Ekholm and asking him a few questions regarding his family.
Answering about his pregnant wife and their due date, Holland quipped about it being «after the parade». Both men had a nice laugh about this, though I'm sure they were equally serious.
Currently, the Oilers are in 4th place in the Western Conference with 95 points. There is a chance that they could claim the top spot in the West only being three points behind the Vegas Golden Knights.
If their strong play can continue and their top point-getters continue to roll as they have been there is a good chance that the Oilers could go deep within the playoffs and take a shot at the Cup.
Oilers nation will need to wait and see where they finish, and see who they will face in the first round.
