Leon Draisaitl Needs to Heat up to Make NHL History
The Edmonton Oilers have 9 games remaining till the end of the regular season, and Draisaitl could possibly break the NHL record of most power-play goals scored in a single season. The record is currently held by Tim Kerr with 34 PPG in 1985-86.
Draisaitl just passed Ilya Kovalchuk for most power-play goals in a season in the Salary Cap Era with 28. Those 28 PPG are the most from a player since Mario Lemieux who had 31 in the 1995-96 season.
He is only 6 power-play goals away from tying the NHL record and 7 from breaking it. With only 9 games remaining it's possible that he breaks the record but he would have to get hot on the power-play.
The Oilers have a fairly easy schedule coming up as they play, Arizona, Anaheim twice and San Jose twice in their last 9 games.
Draisaitl just passed his previous career high of 110 points, and has a chance to hit 50 goals in a season for the third time in his career.
