Matt Petgrave Released on Bail: Received standing ovation at home game
In a recent development, there's been a significant update in the case involving ice hockey player Adam Johnson's tragic demise. Matt Petgrave, the individual initially taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter, has been released on bail pending further investigation. As of now, no charges have been filed against him.
The unfortunate incident occurred during a match against the Sheffield Steelers on October 28, where Johnson suffered a fatal neck injury due to an accidental cut from Petgrave's skate. Despite immediate medical attention, Johnson was pronounced dead at the hospital. A subsequent post-mortem examination confirmed the severe neck injury as the cause of death.
Although Petgrave has not played since, the team published a photo of him on the scoreboard, fans gave him a standing ovation:
While the police have not officially confirmed Petgrave's identity, strong indications suggest his involvement in the incident. The suspect was apprehended on Tuesday and has since been released on bail.
Detective Chief Superintendent Becs Horsfall, leading the investigation for South Yorkshire Police, highlighted the extensive efforts to understand the circumstances surrounding Adam's tragic loss. Specialized experts and collaboration with the health and safety department at Sheffield City Council are integral parts of the ongoing inquiry.
