When Tkachuk and Gaudreau were part of the team, the Flames were a formidable contender, with every player exuding confidence and controlling the play.
Fast forward to 2023, and the team is now in disarray.
In light of this, Flames management and ownership have decided to change the roster, declaring a much-needed reset. According to insider trading, Pierre Lebrun of The Athletic and TSN stated that all unrestricted free agents are on the table, and they are actively listening to offers.
There has been much speculation about three unrestricted free-agent defensemen: Noah Hanifan, Brandon Tanev, and Dimitri Zadorov. Former general manager Brad Treliving, now with the Toronto Maple Leafs, has expressed significant interest in both Zadorov and Tanev.
Despite having no projected cap space, the Flames have several players who will become unrestricted and restricted free agents next year, including Elias Lindholm, AJ Greer, Hanifan, Tanev, Zadorov, Nick DiSimone, and Dennis Gilbert.
With a surplus of available players, it seems the Flames are moving towards either a mini-rebuild or a retool.
