A huge move needs to be considered by the Edmonton Oilers if they want to pursue it: waiving Raphael Lavoie.

Lavoie could end up being claimed by any NHL team that has space if he is waived to be sent down to Bakersfield.

"Lavoie is now waiver eligible, meaning he would have to go through waivers if he's sent down to Bakersfield (AHL)."

Teams like Montreal, who might like to add a six-foot-four Quebec winger to their small roster, will watch performances like the one put on by Lavoie on Monday."

- Mark Spector, Sportsnet journalist covering the Oilers

According to NHL Insider Mark Spector, the Montreal Canadiens are interested in Lavoie.

The team has a glut of forwards, which is a good problem, however, it creates a problem for the prospects since they must either be waived or traded or be claimed without compensation.

The Oilers currently have so many forwards they can use, but losing Lavoie for nothing would be a non-starter

Is it possible to trade him to the Montreal Canadiens? There is no official word and no prospects in Laval have been mentioned as a possible target for the Oilers. Could Cayden Primeau be one of those prospects? It'll be interesting to see..

The 23-year-old Chambly-born winger was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2nd round of the 2019 draft as the 38th overall pick. The big winger scored 45 points in 61 AHL games in 2022-2023.
