TSN690 makes a ridiculous trade rumour for Auston Matthews
As the NHL playoffs roll into the third round, many teams that bumped out conduct their locker clean-out day as a time when they make themselves available to the media to answer questions about the season that was.
The Maple Leafs held their media day today as they were defeated by the Florida Panthers in five games over the weekend. With looming changes coming to the Maple Leafs and potentially catastrophic changes from management down to the bottom 6, one player's name continues to circulate throughout the web about what he will do shortly.
TSN 690 posted a picture of Matthews with the Canadiens jersey showing a potential trade they should consider for Matthews with Cole Caulfield, and Mike Matheson with the 5th overall pick in 2023.
This trade will not happen and is a little ridiculous.
Firstly, the offer that was presented is not enough for what Matthews can bring to any team in terms of goals assists and offensive play.
Secondly, I can't see why the Maple Leafs would move their cornerstone to their arch-rival. Matthews is eligible to sign his extension as of July 1st and he will have a no-movement clause for the remainder of his year before he becomes an unrestricted free agent.
