Team McDavid absolutely roasts the Leafs after All Star Game
Surprisingly, this year's NHL All Star Weekend proved to be the biggest success at the event in several years. Players were clearly more engaged and having fun, and it showed well on television. The players even got so into it that some chirps were flying around - including David Pastrnak taking a shot at the laughing stock of the league in the Leafs.
After Team Matthews beat out Pastrnak and Team McDavid in the final game of the mini all-star tournament, Pastrnak roasted the Leafs by saying they should appreciate these wins, because the team really needed them. Finally, a Leafs led team was able to eliminate Pastrnak.
Good for them. They needed some wins. They got one.
-David Pastrnak
With a smile on his face, Pastrnak destroyed any chance the Leafs had of feeling good about their All-Star Win by reminding them of their constant failures in the postseason, and their disappointing season so far.
Overall, this year's All Star Event was an overwhelming success compared to last years' efforts. The Skills Competition actually became an engaging watch as players genuinely competed for the $1M prize, and the actual games themselves - while not entirely hard hitting - definitely remained competitive as teams were earnestly trying to win. The goaltenders specifically had fantastic performances.
The star of the weekend was Connor McDavid and his absolutely dominating performance in both the all-star games and the skills competition. Although the All Star Game will be gone next year in favour of an international tournament, this year's improvements are promising for the future of the All Star Game for the first time in quite a while.
