The NHL Returning to Atlanta? Talks Are Heating Up
Discussions regarding NHL expansion have surfaced, with potential plans to add another franchise in the future.
The presence of TNT as an NHL rights holder, based in Atlanta, suggests the possibility of expansion in the city. This could potentially grant Atlanta a franchise ahead of other contenders such as Quebec or Hamilton.
Previously, the Atlanta Thrashers played from 1999 to 2011 before relocating to become the Winnipeg Jets.
Although the Thrashers struggled in terms of success, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman continues to show a keen interest in expanding into sunbelt regions despite previous challenges faced by the league in these areas.
