With all professional sports, it's not uncommon for a player that the organization had high hopes for doesn't pan out in the long run. Some players look great in their junior years and even into the HL but when they bring their game to the big league, they failed to deliver.

It appears to be the case with Oilers forward Kailer Yamamoto. Yamamoto has not worked out for the Oilers since being drafted in the first round 22nd pick in 2017.

At 5 foot 8 and 153 pounds, the 24-year-old right winger has had too many injuries during his career. He only has managed to play one full season with the Oilers in that season he managed to score 20 goals.

Now that the offseason is upon everyone, the others are looking for cap space as they do not have much to work with and they have 7 unrestricted and restricted free agents to cope with.

It appears the Oilers are prepared to offer Yamamoto to any NHL organization for free or place him under buyout where the Oilers can bio 2/3 of his contract and have a cap space that lasts double what he has left.

His current cap hit is 3.1 million for next season. He becomes a restricted free agent with arbitration rights. I expect the Oilers to move him out within the summer it will be interesting to see who will take him.
