Amidst the trade talks involving Sam Lafferty and the Toronto Maple Leafs and Vancouver Canucks, an interesting twist emerged. According to Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs explored the possibility of trading Lafferty to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Vincent Desharnais.

This potential deal drew attention as the Oilers had previously expressed interest in Lafferty, which made sense given their desire to bolster their fourth line.

On the other hand, the Maple Leafs were in search of help on their right side and additional toughness, making Desharnais an attractive candidate. However, this particular trade never came to fruition.

Ultimately, the Maple Leafs managed to secure a fifth-round pick from the Canucks in exchange for Lafferty, a move that allowed them to avoid the risk of losing him on waivers.

Lafferty is anticipated to play a significant role in Vancouver's forward lineup, making contributions to their penalty kill and adding a physical presence.

As the season progresses, it remains to be seen if Toronto continues its quest for a robust, right-handed defenseman through alternative avenues.
